Davide Zappacosta is close to walking out of Chelsea. The right-back already has one foot at the door. Zappacosta has failed to break into Maurizio Sarri’s Premier League squad, despite making it into the EFL’s list.
The right-back can’t hold a spot under Sarri and is considering leaving the English club after moving from Torino in 2017.
Zappacosta looked very promising under former boss Antonio Conte, but since his departure, the player has plunged down the pecking order.
He’s had to contend with skipper Caesar Azpilicueta for the berth who has been exceptional as both a captain and a defender for Chelsea.
Italian outfit Lazio have informed Chelsea of their interests in the dissatisfied star and are ready to bring him in this January.
Talks are said to have reached a good stage as the 22 million-rated defender could pack his things up very soon.
Chelsea have target Hysaj Elseid as a better replacement for the Italian. Elseid has refused to pen a deal at his club Napoli, and is hopeful Chelsea will strike a deal soon with Napoli over his services.
Meanwhile, Lazio will attempt to sign Zappacosta on loan first in view of making it permanent at the end of the season.
Chelsea are fourth on the log in the Premier League, and head into the second leg of the Carabao Cup on 24 January trailing by a lone goal from Spurs striker Harry Kane.
