Uruguay are out of the World Cup in Russia and Arsenal will pride themselves as not just favourites to land Lucas Torreira but for the fact that he’s chosen the Gunners over Naples side Napoli.
France routed the the South Americans in a dramatic 2-0 win, enough to send them packing.
And it was earlier stated that the Gunners were in pole position to sign the midfielder.
Reports also suggested that they had requested his medical be done in Russia during the whole World Cup action.
However, that request was declined by the player who had insisted the medical clearance be stalled until Uruguay are done in the World Cup.
For many Gunners’ fans a quicker way to finalise his move was for Uruguay to exit the World Cup and eventually they did, losing to Didier Deschamps France.
Crucially, the 22-year-old has been flying for the Uruguayan team before their disappointing exit .
However, following their loss on Friday, fans will hope Arsenal will take huge strides in completing his move in the coming weeks.
BBC journalist David Ornstein took to Twitter stating that Arsenal will look to complete the 22-year-old’s move next week.

The 22-year-old also told reporters he would join the north Londoners and a video on Twitter has convincingly confirmed he will be joining the outfit.
