Croatian international and Liverpool centre back Dejan Lovren has put pen to paper on a long-term contract that will see him stay put at Anfield until the summer of 2012, this report is according to Liverpoolfc.
Jurgen Klopp has been rebuilding the Reds team since his appointment in 2015 and Dejan Lovren has been a key figure in the rebuilding effort of Klopp. This term, Lovren has started in 25 League games, scoring two goals.
Lovren made his mind on how delighted he is to continue his career with liverpool.
“I think this is one special day for me and my family.
“I think I am the happiest guy [in the world] today, it’s another dream come true. It was always my dream to stay as long as possible at one club that I love – and that is Liverpool.
“After all that happened in the beginning, in the last two seasons I think I’ve done better than in the first season. The club has rewarded me, they believed in me and also the fans, and this is what I respect a lot after everything that happened.
“I am pleased with everything and I just want to stay here as long as possible and be a part of this family for many, many years to come.”
The 27-year-old tough tackler moved to Premier League side Southampton from Lyon in the summer of 2013 for a fee believed to be £8.5 million, he instantly established himself as a favourite under Mauricio Pochettino that season.
His stay with the Saint spanned just a season as Liverpool pounced on him and he signed for them in the summer of 2014 in a deal worth £20 million. Since then, he has commanded regular shirt as a first choice centre back.
Liverpool have endured a mix season in which they have beaten the bigger teams of the League but lost to teams in the second half of the table. The Reds have scored the most goals(70) in the League thus far but they have conceded more goals than the first seven teams on the table.
Klopp must bolster his defense if he wants Liverpool to be more competitive next term. The number of goals conceded by the team is a pointer to the fact that they need defensive reinforcement to join Lovren at the heart of defense.
