Why Liverpool will thrash Arsenal, Paul Merson makes brutal claim

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has taking a sly dig at the Gunners defence, with claims that Liverpool are favourites for the crunch Premier League tie on Saturday.

Arsenal started the season slowly but are yet to lose a game after their defeat to Chelsea. Unai Emery has earned plaudits for the form of the North London club that has seen Arsenal are in fourth position and just four points adrift City and Liverpool occupy the top spot of the League log.

The Gunners undoing have been their leaky defence – Arsenal have conceded 13 League goals, which is much more than the first six teams on the table. However, the London club are a high scoring team as they are currently the second most potent club after City.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners game against Liverpool, Merson has given Arsenal no chance.

“I can’t see anything but a Liverpool win,” he told Sky Sports. “I think this is the day Arsenal show some big cracks. I just think the defence is terrible, all over the place, and no different to what it was before.

“If Hector Bellerin is injured, you’re talking about Granit Xhaka at left-back, a central midfield player, and Stephan Lichtsteiner at right-back, who has been a good player but is nearly 35 now.

“How many 35-year-old’s are there in the Premier League?’

“Leicester’s front three aren’t even in the same class as Liverpool’s. I just cannot see how Arsenal will live with them.

“People will say: ‘Oh Arsenal will score goals…’ but Liverpool’s defence has been superb. I watched Arsenal win 11 games on the trot, and they could have easily lost four of them, let alone drawn them.”

  1. Will somebody tell this Merson of a man to just keep quiet and stop predicting doom for our Arsenal.I heard that he is an Arsenal legend?, but I rather call him an Arsenal hater. Even if Liverpool beat us tomorrow (God forbid0 it won’t be such a catastrophe .He should know that this is not Wenger’s era, but Emery’s revolution. Arsenal is conceding goals, yes but we are also scoring plenty. So the trend will not change tomorrow. I see our Arsenal beating Liverpool tomorrow by 4-2.COYG let’s put the haters to shame.
