Arsenal new signing Sead Kolasinac has received plaudits from all quarters of football for his impressive pre-season outing with the Gunners. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has now revealed why he signed the defender according to report.
Kolasinac, 24, joined Arsenal from Schalke 04 on a free transfer as the Gunners first summer signing. He was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window but the Gunners failed to broker a deal for him over a disagreement in his transfer fee.
The signing of Kolasinac has thrown the future of Kierran Gibbs into heavy doubts as he has fallen down the selection pecking order of the Gunners.
Kolasinac featured for Arsenal in all of their pre-season games and he was one of the stand out performers for the Gunners when they ran rally over Chelsea in the Community Shield game last Sunday.
Speaking after the Gunners win of Chelsea, Arsene Wenger was quizzed about the players show-off and the French tactician said:
“He is physically very strong, naturally,” Wenger said, reports the Mirror.
“You have players are pumped up in the gym, and players who are born strong, and he is the second.
“In the Premier League power plays a part, but it is not only that. I got him as well because of his attitude.
“You need always the combination of talent and attitude.”
“He looks to me that he has good talent and as well a strong, determined attitude, supported by a strong body.”
Arsenal went 1 – 0 down in the first half of the game against Chelsea on Saturday but it was the equaliser by Kolasinac that gave the Gunners the chance to win at penalties.
He completed 93% percent of his passes, won three tackles, and an aerial duel and was said to thick the boxes of the Gunners.
Kolasinac is not guaranteed playing time at Arsenal, he may have to be consistent to dislodge Nacho Monreal to a place in the team.
