Chelsea won the Premier League convincingly last season but they face a huge task of defending their title successfully this season.
The Blues, who also returned to the Champions League, were defeated by Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday as Antonio Conte lost another trophy to Arsene Wenger.
And N’Golo Kante who won the PFA Player of the Year last season and helped Chelsea clinched the league title, is fully conscious of their rivals efforts at strengthening their squad and has admitted that the club retaining their league crown this season won’t come easy.
‘It’s going to be tough because a lot of teams have strengthened [this summer], which makes it more difficult,’ Kante, told Chelsea’s official website.
‘The season starts next weekend and we have to be ready.’
The league champions start their title defence with the match against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on August 12.
Chelsea have already signed Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger spending around £150 million while Willy Caballero was brought in on free transfer.
But Conte still wants more signings at the club as he is keen on retaining the Premier League and also goes far in the Champions League.
Their title rivals have not rested on their laurels in bolstering their team; Man United have signed Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic while Man City have parted with more than £200 million to bring in Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy. Arsenal and Liverpool have also strengthened their teams
