Ahead of a second meeting between Manchester United and West Ham in the space of three days, West Ham star player, Dimitri Payet has warned his teammates that the Old Trafford outfit will be out for revenge after the 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Sunday. The Hammers head into the EFL Cup tie high on confidence after matching their more illustrious opponents for the best part of the league match some days ago, and will be looking for a repeat performance if they are to progress to the next round.
Payet, who has been linked to United this week, has been speaking about the game, as he believes the point gained in the league for his team will put them in good stead against the Jose Mourinho tutored side. The 29 year old has rediscovered the form that gave him a spot in the PFA Team of the Year last season, and has created the most chances in the league this season.
The France international was the subject of massive transfer speculation throughout the summer, but was eventually unable to leave the East London outfit. He had a fantastic European Championships in his native France, and hasn’t ruled out a move.
Though, his focus is on helping West Ham out of the relegation dogfight they are currently embroiled in. Speaking to his club’s official website, the former Marseille playmaker had this to say.
“Obviously it was an important point for us,” “It is never easy to come to Old Trafford and get a result, but that is what we have succeeded in doing. “When you come to a place like Old Trafford you have to defend and the system is in place for perfectly good reasons.”.
Diafra Sakho is expected to miss the league cup tie against The Red Devils. The Senegal international is out for three weeks after picking a hamstring complaint after the game on Sunday. Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba will miss the game due to suspension in a game that United simply have to win, to relieve some of the pressure already building on the shoulders of Jose Mourinho.
