Unai Emery has asked Arsenal new head of football Raul Sanllehi to sign Sevilla midfield maestro Ever Banega and a deal has been mooted for the January transfer window, this is according to report.
Arsenal were heavily involved in the summer transfer window but all their attempts to sign Banega fell through.
Banega was a key figure for Valencia and Sevilla during the reigns of Emery at the aforementioned clubs and the Spanish tactician is said to want a reunion.
Emery is building a style at Arsenal that sees his team build from the back but part of the failing of the squad is their inability to hold on to possession. Banega is adept at retaining ball possession and with him in the middle of the pack of Arsenal, they will perfectly execute Emery’s plan.
The Sun reports that Banega signing could be the first for Arsenal in January since Raul Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham took charge of the club’s overall management.
Ivan Gazidis called time with us and he has been replaced by Sanllehi who before now Sporting director at Barcelona. He will be in charge of transfers at Arsenal and there is the widespread belief that he would do better.
Banega, 30, is valued at £18million, a price tag that is quite good considering the nature of the transfer window.
