Arsenal are now in pole position to sign Ivory Coast and Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, this is according to reports.
Unai Emery recently revealed that the Gunners will be forced to look into the market if they have an obvious need. With injuries to Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding, the club apparently has no choice than to reinforce their squad.
After scouring the market for available players, Unai Emery has reportedly informed the brass of Arsenal to bring on Pepe. This season, he has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 13 Ligue 1 games.
Pepe joined Lille in the summer of 2017 and since then, he has been one of the standout performances for side.
The 23-year-old star has a clause in his contract that is said to be in the region of £45million. Emery will try to convince the board of Arsenal to make an offer for the star in January.
Arsenal are not the only club that have been credited with interest for the player. While Manchester City and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for him, Arsenal are said to be frontrunners for his signature.
The Gunners look very thin and shaby in defence but they could also do with a winger who would provide something better and different to what Iwobi brings.
