Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed that Danny Welbeck’s injury is a serious one.
The Gunners were held to a goalless draw by Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon at the Emirates. However, the North London club have made it to the next round of the competition.
Welbeck picked up a suspected ankle injury during the first half of game and he was rushed to the hospital afterward. His injury affected the atmosphere of the game as he was attended to by the medics for long and even needed an oxygen mask.
Emery has spoken about the injury, where he did not in anyway to allay the fears of the Arsenal fan base.
“It’s the worst news tonight, this injury. It’s clear that we are with him in these minutes.
“He was working well and he was having a good match. He had some chances too. Emery said.
“His injury was with the mentality of the players. They saw it was a big injury.
“When you are playing football, when you are playing in competitive matches, it can happen. You don’t want it to happen but this is our profession.
“Now he is at the hospital. The news is that we are going to wait – but we think it’s a serious injury.”
Without Danny Welbeck, Arsenal look a tad short of strikers up front and may require to sign a player in the stead of the English striker.
He will be out of contract at the end of the season and he’s yet to reach an agreement over a new deal.
