Chelsea transfer activities this summer has not really yielded much fruits. The club have been linked with a number of players but have been able to sign only three – Antonio Rudiger from Roma and Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco for a combined fee of over £75 million, while Willy Caballero joined on a free transfer from Man City.
A deal for Real Madrid right-back Danilo is also said to be close but while the club’s defence looks to have been strengthened, the same cannot be said of the attack.
Antonio Conte is so keen on bolstering his squad before the start of the new season and was left frustrated when the Premier League champions missed out on Romelu Lukaku to Man United.
There have been reports linking them with a host of top-class strikers but nothing concrete has come out of them.
And with Diego Costa leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, Conte needs to sign a forward before the transfer window closes.
In the light of that, here is a look at three players that could replace the Spanish striker at Chelsea;
The Chilean international has 12 months left on his contract at Arsenal but his refusal to pen a new deal at the club means Arsenal will have to cash in on him than to lose him for free next summer. He has been linked with a move to Chelsea with Conte interested in his services while pep Guardiola is also eyeing reuniting with him at Man City.
Sanchez was Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League with 24 goals last season but the absence of Champions League football at the Emirates Stadium means he could move on. At Chelsea he could be deployed as the central striker- the same position he operated at last season- with Eden Hazard and Pedro on the flanks.
The Borussia Dortmund hitman is finally set to leave the Bundesliga. He has been consistently linked away from the German club but he has always ended spending another season with them. And with Chelsea ready to splash the cash to boost their final third, the Gabon international is available for £70 million.
His attacking prowess is on the high-side as he has proved that every season both in the domestic league and Europe. He scored 31 goals in 32 league games and seven in nine Champions League appearances for Dortmund last season. He can also play as the main striker.
Pep Guardiola wants Alexis Sanchez in a swap deal that would see Aguero move to the Emirates Stadium. The Argentinean forward was relegated to the bench following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and could only reclaim his starting spot after injury to the Brazilian youngster.
And from all indications, Aguero doesn’t appear to be part of Guardiola’s plan for next season but he may prefer a switch to Chelsea where there is guarantee of Champions League.
