‘That one is Thibaut Courtois’ – Chelsea receive bad news for Belgian star

Thibaut Courtois may be heading out of Chelsea at the end of the season to Paris Saint Germain or Real Madrid, that’s according to Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague.

Since the departure of Iker Casillas from the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid have been looking for a world class striker in the stead of Courtois. They attempted to sign Man United’s Thibaut Courtois in the summer 2015 but failed in the attempt.

They have since turned their attention to Courtois as a potential replacement for Keylor Navas. Navas has not been doing very badly but Los Blancos are bent of signing a new shot stopper.

Meanwhile, PSG are building a star studded team and they are keen on ending the spells of Alphonse Areola and Kevin, who have failed to live up to their bidding.

According to  Balague, Courtois may extend his contract with Chelsea in a bid to see him become the most paid goalkeeper in the world.

At the opening of the January transfer window, Madrid made moves to sign Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga but their failure to sign means, Courtois is the only choice they have.

“The contract with Bilbao is lucrative, so he’s decided to stay,” he said. That, of course, leaves a question mark for Real Madrid, and who they may be going for as a goalkeeper.

“The situation is this; Keylor Navas has not been the same since his injury, Kiko Casilla is not trusted at the club, so they need another goalkeeper.

“They were thinking they may need two, but that’s now one, and that one is Thibaut Courtois.

“Courtois has a choice to make: PSG, Real Madrid or renewing at Chelsea. Any of these three options would make him the best-paid goalkeeper in the world.

“The only thing right now is that PSG have done more of the preliminary work, and Real are coming late to the table.

“Any move would happen in the summer, but Courtois wants the situation sorted now, with his contract running out at the end of June 2019.

“Courtois wants to go back to Madrid because a lot of his family are there, and even though PSG were ahead, Real have gone very strong in the last few hours to try to convince him to move to the Bernabeu.”
