Maurizio Sarri did not break any beads of sweat when picking out his back four in the summer after he was handed the helm at the club following the delayed dismissal of former Italian boss Antonio Conte.
The former Empoli and Napoli boss has actually preferred playing Brazil international David Luiz this campaign, pairing him at the centre with Belgian Antonio Rudiger.
Luiz was froze out during Conte’s regime, however his return back to Sarri’s team sheet, which should have been alarming, given suggestions he was still sloppy having sat on the bench too long.
But after few convincing games, it would appear the Sarri had conceived the perfect centre-back formula at Stamford Bridge. However, that meant he would axe a favourite–Andreas Christensen.
The Danish star has been tipped as Chelsea future and completely slicing him out of his sheet has many awed.
It’s been said that the Denmark international will leave the club, since he couldn’t get a place in the Premier League, save the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
While the latter is true, the former is unlikely to happen says Sky Sports Dharmesh Sheth.
“Andreas Christensen was a regular under Antonio Conte. Remember Conte kind of froze out David Luiz and brought Christensen in.
“Now it’s flipped. David Luiz seems to be flavour of the month as far as Sarri is concerned and Christensen isn’t getting a game.
“He’s obviously not happy and he’s made it clear that he’s not happy – but he doesn’t expect Chelsea to sell him this month.”
Christensen is clearly not happy with this treatment, something that has not gone down well with him, “but he doesn’t expect Chelsea to sell him this month” says Sheth.
