Manchester United are ready to let go off Marouane Fellaini since the Belgian midfielder has refused to extend his stay at Old Trafford. United appear unaffected by the decision of the player to leave the club as there are other players who can seamlessly take his place within the United ranks or in the transfer market.
Despite having other options in the midfield, Jose Mourinho is planning on getting a replacement for the player in January as reported by Manchester Evening News earlier this month. The Red Devils have being linked with a move for Benfica’s on-loan midfielder Bryan Cristante. Though not in the same playing position, the Portuguese manager is also monitoring Leon Goretzka and Julian Draxler as his replacement because they can equally play at the centre of the pitch.
Mourinho is spot-on with his decision to look for a midfield enforcer, but there is one player who could be a perfect replacement for MarouaneFellaini. This player can slot into United’s set up with ease, unlike the other players who are yet to be released by their respective clubs.
Stephen Nzozi has been identified by many pundits and fans, who may have been used to favourable football betting odds, as the perfect replacement for MarouaneFellaini due to his playing style. Just as Fellaini, N’zonzi is a strong player on the ball and his ability get back into position off the ball makes him a major asset. He also has a great ability in shielding the ball from opponents.
Going forward, Nzozi can provide Mourinho the aerial ability that seems to be missing in the team’s strikers. Until the last match, United have found it hard to score goals with headers. Mourinho could be rest-assured that his team will be of threat to other clubs from set-pieces due to the height (1.96m) and aerial ability possessed by Nzozi.
Despite his attacking trait, Steven doesn’t forget his defensive duties. He is known to provide help to his defenders when needed. He has been phenomenal in Sevilla, making an average of 1.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per match so far this season despite not being used regularly after having fallout with his boss.
With the quality possessed by the midfielder, United must act fast in securing his services because Arsenal are already weighing a move for the tough-tackling DM, reports Daily Mail. However, from history, we know that Arsenal do not possess any transfer threats to Man United due to the frugal nature of the brass of the club and Arsene Wenger.
Since the departure of Patrick Vieira from Arsenal to Juventus in the summer of 2005, Wenger has failed to sign a player in his stead. It is believed that even though their style of play is different, Nzonzi will be able to bring steel to the Gunners midfield.. Nonetheless, it is left to be seen where he ends up.
