Liverpool have been handed a major blow in their quest to bolster their final third after emerging report claim their transfer prime target Thomas Lemar has agreed personal term to join Atletico Madrid.
Lemar had swashbuckling season with Monaco in the penultimate season after which he won the admiration of Arsenal and Liverpool. The Gunners tabled a £90m bid for him in the penultimate summer transfer window but since they couldn’t get a club to sign Alexis Sanchez, they withdrew their bid for the winger.
Following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, the Reds were in search for his replacement and they were said to have made offers for Lemar in January. However, the deal fell through and it was believed that they will make another offer for him this summer.
Alas, Liverpool may have to turn their attention elsewhere to strengthen their attack – talkSport reports via Cadena Ser, revealed that Lemar is on the verge of completing a move to Wanda Metropolitano after agreeing personal terms with the Madrid base club and the club have reserved the squad no.10 jersey for him.
Discussions are ongoing for his transfer fee and it is hoped that the conclusion of the deal will come become the start of the world cup. Barcelona have been in the chase of Antoine Griezmann and the signing of Lemar could spell the end of Griezmann with the Rojiblancos.
