Ainsley Maitland-Niles has put pen to paper on a long term contract with Arsenal, according to the club’s official website.
Niles has showed flashes of brilliance and versatility when ever he is called upon to play for the Gunner and he has now been rewarded for his unprecedented growth and improvement.
Born in London, the versatile midfielder joined the academy of Arsenal when he was just nine – his impressive display saw him quickly ascended to the highest grades of the club until Arsene Wenger handed him his debut when he was just 17 in their Champions league game against Galatasaray in the December of 2014.
Since then, the 20-year has grown in relevance at the club. In a bid to accelerate his development, he spent the 2015/16 season on loan at Ipswich Town and he was described as an ‘outstanding’ player by Mick McCarthy. He was a bit-part player for the Gunners last term, where he made 28 appearances in all competitions and various position and it appears that we will have him for long term.
Maitland-Niles has featured for England in all the Junior categories and he is fondly remembered for Captaining the English U20 side that conquered the cadet Championship in the June of 2017.
Arsenal are heavily linked with a move for Sampdoria’s Torreira, that could affect his place in the team of the Gunner as they have a plethora of midfielders. However, Maitland-Niles is poised to fight for a place in Unai Emery’s led side.
