Soothing: Arsene Wenger message to Alexandre Lacazette after debut goal

Arsenal record signing Alexandre Lacazette made his debut for Gunners against Sydney FC today and was the highlight of the game after scoring a clinical goal in the second half.

Lacazette was left on the bench at the start of the match but Arsenal took the lead from an overhead kick by Mertesacker in the first half before the French striker came off the bench to make it two, after a eagle-eyed assist from Alex Iwobi.

Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal in a £52m deal after several years of interest in the striker. Following his stellar show-offs for the Les Gones over the last two seasons, he is expected to slot into the first team of Arsenal and so much is expected of the goal poacher.

‘It’s important that he gets that off his shoulders,’ a happy Wenger said. ‘You expect a striker to score. You could see he was happy.’

Typical with the Gunners, they were very wasteful in front of goal before the introduction of new boy Alexandre Lacazette. It took the French striker less than 16 minutes to open his account in Arsenal’s first game of this year’s pre-season tour.

There were a handful of young players on the tour with Arsenal but Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock were given the chance to shine and the lad were impressive.

So much ado about the goal of Lacazette but a pre-season game is quite different from the League but this will go a long way in boosting his confidence.
