Unai Emery has revealed why he benched Mesut Ozil in the Gunners game against Chelsea.
Ozil was left out of the Gunners squad that suffered defeat to West Ham United despite being fit and a lot of questions were raised about his relationship with Emery.
The ex-Germany international had sustained injury that has left him out of the Gunners squad for some time. Ahead of the Chelsea game, he declared himself fit but despite being the most creative Arsenal star, he was left on the bench all through the game.
Speculations have garnered momentum over his future with Arsenal and he has been heavily linked with a move away from the side.
“He was OK to play but we decided not to play him,” Emery said.
“I spoke with him. I wanted him to be ready for the match today and for the next matches with the spirit like all the players in the team.
“Today I have the confidence with him if he played. I think he could do like we wanted.
“The next matches we are going to need every player and also his quality.”
