Sadio Mane’s future took a sudden flip since negotiations about his commitment at Liverpool took a drag far too long, after fellow frontmen–Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino–inked their signature around mid-last year.
It drew suspicions from the media and fans he could be on his way out of Anfield after a trophyless spell at the club.
Real Madrid had been the club reportedly said to be waiting on the wings to sign him up. The drama had questioned his commitment at the club last year, and forced reactions from team buddies Mo Salah and Firmino.
Nonetheless, the 28-year-old Senegal international remained unshaken by the reports spilling out of the media about his future at Anfield. Mane silenced the media and everyone when he signed a new deal that will keep him at The Kop until 2023, in November last year.
The player has reached the century mark for Liverpool, tallying 100 appearances when he featured against Crystal Palace at Anfield, and still managed to belt his 10 goal of the campaign in the clash that ended 4-3.
Mane insists he is happy at Liverpool, quelling the reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid
“Speculation is part of football,” said the Liverpool forward. “You just learn to live with it and not to take it too seriously.
“All I can say is that my only concern is Liverpool. Mo, Bobby… it seemed like everyone was signing contracts and they were saying: ‘Hey Sadio, when are you going to sign?’. I said to each of them: ‘Don’t worry bro, I will sign’.
“And what did I do? I signed… so they are pleased now!
“We want to write our names alongside the many great ones in the story of this club. Hopefully it’s the beginning of something special.”
