Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Italian midfielder Jorginho from Seria Side Napoli, per reports.
The midfield schemer was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City but the lure of playing under his boss at Napoli Maurizio Sarri, was a major factor as to why he agreed to put pen to paper with the Blues.
He signed a five-year deal with Chelsea in a deal believed to be worth £57million – however, the stated fee also covers the sell-on clause for Maurizio Sarri, who was still tied to a contract with Napoli despite being sacked.
Jorginho arrived Chelsea on Thursday and he successfully underwent a medical with the blues and he will now earn £102,000-a-week.
Following his move, the player laid bare his delight, tacitly revealing why he snubbed City
‘I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.’
Sarri is looking to transform the playing style of Chelsea to an entertainment form and Jorginho is certainly going to be at the fore front of executing that.
Jorginho has the ability to retain ball possession and his inch-perfect passes makes him a perfect partner for Kante, who will win the ball and hand it over to him.
