The transfer saga between Liverpool and Barcelona over the transfer of Philippe Coutinho took a new twist today as widespread reports claim that the Brazilian midfield stalwart has handed a transfer request to leave Reds.
Coutinho has been a subject of two huge bids from Barcelona but the Reds have refused to yield to the advances of the Blaugrana side. The Camp Nou outfit table a whopping £90m second bid for the star but it was immediately thrown out by Liverpool.
However, just before the start of the season, Coutinho has reportedly handed a transfer request to Liverpool even though he has earned plaudits for the way he’s handled Barcelona’s interest in him, reports the Express.
Liverpool have come out to dismiss a possible sale of the star and Jurgen Klopp has also reiterated his desire to keep the midfield schemer within his fold.
The owners of Liverpool FSG’s statement read: “We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho.
“The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”
The fans of Barcelona appears really desperate to see that Coutnho signs for them and this has led to widespread circulation of Coutinho’s mock up picture in Barcelona’s shirt.
Liverpool have built their team around Philippe Coutinho and if he’s taken away from their set up, they are bound to really struggled .
The Reds have lost Lucas Leiva in this transfer window, to allow Coutinho leave would further create a deep in the midfield of the Reds.
