While the fans of Chelsea have been sitting at the edge of their seat following the dearth of transfer activities at the club, they may be in for the surprise of the summer.

Dutch and Southampton want-away centre-back Virgil Van Dijk has put the fans of the Blues on alert after he posted a photo on Instagram stating that he is currently in London.

Van Dijk has been a subject of huge transfer speculation since the opening of the transfer window and he has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool before Chelsea entered the race to sign him. The Dutch defender had even handed the Saint a transfer request about 10 days ago in a bid to force a move.

Although, the Saints had rebuffed all the advances of Liverpool  and Chelsea with claims that they would not sell the player, the Chairman of Southampton, Ralph Krueger reckons that he could not confirm where the future of the player lies.

However, Van Dijk has fuelled speculation that he could be joining Chelsea sooner – the friend of the 26-year-old Philip Uby had uploaded a photo of the star on Instagram and caption it ‘Big dog’, with their location showing London.

The post has since been taken down but it has thrown the  Blues fans into a frenzy. However, Liverpool also have offices in London and there is no need for the excitement yet.

Southampton had said that would not sell the player to Liverpool as they allegedly tapped him up but Van Dijk is wary of playing for Chelsea. At Liverpool, he is sure to playing regularly but he may not be able to dislodge any of the Chelsea defensive trio.

Southampton are holding out for £60m(€66m) and that would make him the most expensive defender in the world.
