Italian international and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani teased Chelsea this past summer with flicks of his ability in the Old Lady’s defensive backline, sparking interests inside Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea representatives walk right into those doors in Juventus to register their interests and commence talks quickly of prising him out of the Turin outfit, but were knocked back by surprise after being told he was not up for sale in the summer.
Sarri was very keen on bringing in the young lad, after striking a healthy relationship together during his stretch at Empoli and thought his influence could force a move. He was disappointed, however.
All is not over though, as Chelsea have been handed a boost to pick him up this January before local rivals Arsenal shove them off the way.
Rugani has seen his game time on the pitch drop significantly this season, since the comeback of the athletic and experienced Leonardo Bonuccci from Milan.
Juventus three-pronged wall now consists of experienced trio Leonardo Bonuccci, Andrea Bargzali and Giorgio Chiellini. Given how much they park under the belt, it is very certain Rugani will fade out of the competition.
Rugani’s switch to Chelsea is on the cards and with Chelsea in the corner, a January swoop is very well considered.
The Italian on his Instagram wall was pictured taking English lessons which has led to growing signs he could be preparing for a new life in the English Premier League.
