Arsenal have broken two records since the last summer transfer window – Alexandre Lacazette was signed in a record deal before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s deal eclipsed his own in the January transfer window. And now, Arsenal are targeting Barcelona starlet Ousmane Demebele in another record deal, according reports.
Dembele was the marquee signing for Barcelona last summer but the French forward has seen his stock dropped because of the incessantly injuries that have blighted his fledging career.
The youngster has had only eight cameos for the Blaugranas this season, with five of them coming from the substitute bench and there are reports that Barcelona will consider letting the player leave next summer.
GFN gathered last week that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to link up with the rising star and he has asked Arsene Wenger to complete a move for the player. The report further claimed that Arsene Wenger okayed a move for the star.
According to ESPN FC pundit Shaka Hislop, Dembele will be allowed to complete a loan move if Barcelona signs Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
“As a sale, no,” Hislop said. “If Ousmane Dembele leaves Barcelona, I think it would be as a loan.
“I understand the concern, (Philippe) Coutinho coming in, and where does he all fit in.
“But Dembele’s signing wasn’t an afterthought to Coutinho when that deal fell through in the summer.
“Barcelona were pursuing both at the same time so you would figure that they figured in their plans.
“Atletico Madrid and Griezmann, ther are also other options in terms of whether Griezmann goes to Barcelona, does Atleti want Dembele.
“I think that is more likely, so I will put this down as a miss.”
I do not see Dembele joining Arsenal on any ground. Arsene Wenger claimed Arsenal would have signed Jonny Evans in the January transfer window but for lack of funds. Dembele would come at a big price and Arsenal will certainly not be willing to pay.
However, Dembele would have been a more dangerous option to Alex Iwobi on the flank.
