Among the reckless spending of former Manchester United manager Luis Van Gaal, the signing of Italian star Matteo Darmian was seen as money very well spent. The 27-year-old right back shone for Torino before moving to the Theatre of dream.
Since Jose Mourinho took charge of the helms of United, Darmian has struggled to establish himself as a first team player and he has been heavily linked with a return to his the Seria A, specifically Juventus have signaled interest in signing the versatile right back.
Darmian can play on any side of the wing back positions and he is dubbed as the proper Italian defender but he may not get more playing time when the season comes alive. Jose Mourinho prefers Antonio Valencia on as his right back while Marcos Rojo, and Luke Shaw a the front runners for a place on the left back position.
However, Darmian has quelled reports linking him with a move away from Man United with claims that he is happy, reports the Express.
“I’m pleased that Manchester United consider me to be off the market, just as I’m pleased by the interest of Italian clubs,” he said.
“In any case, there was never anything concrete, so there’s no point talking about the transfer market.
“I see myself at Manchester United, I’m happy here.”
Jose Mourinho has already bolstered his squad ahead of the upcoming season but the Red Devils are yet heavily linked with a move to Serge Aurier, putting Darmian’s future as a subject of further speculation.
However, given that United will feature in four competitions, Darmian could have his fare share of cameos.
