Manchester United and Liverpool have a dealt a major blow after Bayern Munich announced the signing of their prime target Benjamin Pavard, per reports.
Pavard emerged as one of the most talented full backs in Europe after his consistently barnstorming display at the World Cup with France, where he featured in six games.
The 22-year-old star joined Stuttgart from Lille on a four year deal in 2016, and he had a €35 million (£31m/$40m) release clause inserted in the deal.
According to Goal, Bayern Munich activated the release clause of the full back, with the club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirming the same.
“I can confirm that Benjamin Pavard will join us on a five-year deal from 1st July 2019.
“Pavard is a young player and a world champion. We’re delighted and very proud to have been able to secure the services of a player like him.” Salihamidzic said.
Calciomercato revealed that Bayern Munich stole a march on Manchester United, Liverpool and Napoli who are said to be monitoring the player.
Antonio Valencia has surpassed the twilight of his career but United have signed a long term replacement for him in Diogo Dalot, who is struggling to adapt to the Premier league. They could do with another player in that position.
