Official: Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea announced, debut game fixed

Maurizio Sarri has revealed Chelsea are working on a deal for Gonzalo Higuain, with the signing of the player expected to be completed today.

Fans of Chelsea were thrown into a frenzy this morning when Giantsfootballnews revealed the Argentinean was on his way to London.

Although Sarri has not confirmed the deal is done and dusted, he heaped praise on the striker, and revealed he was on the cusp of signing for Chelsea.

During his reign at Napoli, Sarri worked with Higuain, who enjoyed the form of his life – he scored an all time 36 League goals in 35 games.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea Carabao Cup game against Tottenham, the Italian manager said:

‘Higuain is a few hours away from signing his contract at Chelsea,’ he said. ‘We are hoping he will start scoring straightaway for us but there is more to his game than goals. He is a very strong striker and was especially strong during my first season in Naples, he did very well and scored 36 goals in 35 games in Serie A, and 39 in total. For sure he is one of the best strikers in my career, he has the right experience to play here.

‘He wants to win all the time, in any situation. As far as failure is concerned, I wouldn’t call it that, he still scored nine goals (at AC Milan) and he found himself in a team which is not at the same level as Juventus.’

The 31-year-old star who was on loan at AC Milan from Juventus had to cut short his deal in other to link up with his former boss at Chelsea.

He will sign a loan deal with the Blues and they could make the deal a permanent one the end of the season.
