Chelsea have reached an agreement with Exeter for the signature of Welsh wonder kid Ethan Ampadu, reports the Sun.
Chelsea and the Grecians have been locked in talks over a fee for the defender. Ampadu had refused to sign a professional deal with the League two side as he looks to further his career.
Despite his age, the youngster was drafted into the senior side of Exeter and he made history by becoming the Club’s youngest player with 13 appearances after making his debut at the age of 15 years, 10 months and 26 days against Brentford last summer.
He was called up to the senior team of Wales before the Euro 2016 Championship. He was free to talk to other Clubs but he opted to join Chelsea. He 16-year-old had been tried by Liverpool in 2014 but he opted to stay put at Devon at that time.
Chelsea will not pay a transfer fee for the youngster but they are excepted to pay the Club a compensation because he is still a teenager and a product of the academy.
Following the player’s decision to join, Exeter released a statement confirming the player’s decision to move on.
“He had many options available to him and has decided that Chelsea provides him with the best opportunity to develop the next step of his career.
“We wish him the very best of luck.”
Ampadu is expected to join the youth set up of Chelsea where he’s expected to be developed into a superstar.
Chelsea have had a chunk of youngsters within their ranks but they hardly ascend the grades of the Club. We hope that culture is changed sooner, now that the transfer market is heavily inflated.
