Arsenal were major contenders for the Premier League title at the start of the immediate past season but the leaky defense and art of shabby defending was our major undoing. We conceded goals with reckless abandon and ended with the worse defense among the seven top Clubs in the League.
Arsene Wenger seem to have identified his back-line as an area that must be reinforced if the Gunners must push for the title and it appears that Arsenal have confirmed their first signing of the summer. Sead Kolasinac is officially now a Gunner, according to report.
Kolasinac has been on the transfer radar of Arsenal since the January transfer window but all attempts to sign him by Arsenal failed. He will be out of contract with Schalke 04 at the end of this month and officially move to Arsenal on a free transfer.
The 24-year-old has been widely tipped to succeed at Arsenal with claims from pundits that he will usurp Nacho Monreal to the left back position at the Emirates. Kolasinac plays in the left wing position and is good in defending and attacking.
Confirming the report, Arsenal released a statement on their official website and said:
“Sead Kolasinac will join us this summer on a long-term contract,”
“Subject to the completion of all regulatory processes, the defender will start pre-season training in July.”
Kolasinac ascended the grades of Schalke 04 and established himself as a first team player. Until his transfer to Arsenal, he was a regular left full back for the Bundesliga side.
He is welcome at Arsenal but there are other areas like the attack and midfield that Wenger must bolster before the close of the transfer window.
