United have had an interest in Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic turned down by Fiorentina.
Milenkovic was eyed by former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, during the Portuguese stint at the club.
It was earlier hawked that Mourinho and Manchester United were keen on signing the 21-year-old defender, but it was thought to have been peddled as rumour.
United were pressing for a defender during Mourinho’s spell after the Portuguese complained about being short on options at the back before his departure in December.
They still show signs of weakness at the back, despite riding on good success since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as caretaker manager.
Fiorentina chief executive officer, 69-year-old Pantaleo Corvino has confirmed he received interests from United over the player. However, Fiorentina is not ready to flog the 21-year-old and Corvino has put down an suggestions the defender will leave the Italian club.
He said: “We rejected great offers from Lyon for Veretout, from Marseille for Simeone and from Manchester United for Nikola Milenkovic. De Laurentiis pressed for Chiesa. This is the right way to grow.”
United had planned to lodge a 60 million euros bid for defender somewhat around October last year.
