Manchester United have received a massive boost in their quest to sign £54million Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho is currently dissatisfied with the show-offs of the left wing backs at his disposal to extent that he has preferred Ashley to play in the position. The Portuguese tactician has been heavily linked with a move for several left backs including Tottenham Danny Rose, Juventus’s Alex Sandro and Napoli’s Ghoulam.
Napoli have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Benfica’s left back Grimaldo and his imminent move with the Stadio San Paolo outfit with inadvertently end the spell of Ghoulam, who is expected to leave the Seria A side at the end of the season.
Ghoulam caught the attention of Manchester United and Manchester City when he starred for Napoli in their Champions League game last October but reports have indicated that he is likely to end up at the fortress of Old Trafford than the Etihad, reports Calciomercato.
The 26-year-old Algerian star penned a contract extension with the Naples Club last month in which a £54m clause was inserted but given Jose Mourinho’s propensity to spend, the said sum will not be a problem for him.
Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian can all play the left full backs position but Mourinho is looking for a more assured player in that position and Ghoulam fits the bill.
