Brazil born star and Chelsea winger Willian has confirmed that his representative spoke to Manchester United over a proposed move to Old Trafford but for Chelsea’s resolve to hold on to him, according to report.
Manchester United have been heavily involved in the transfer market this summer but they have been unable to sign a winger. The Red devils had seen bids for Ivan Perisic rebuffed and their attempt to lure Gareth Bale to Old Trafford has remained nothing but a pipe dream.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also bolstered their squad this summer but the place of Willian in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation continues to be on the bench. The Brazilian came-off the bench in most of his League appearances for the Blues last term and it is said that he will consider his future if that is not changed.
Willian joined Chelsea from Anzhi in the summer of 2013 after a £30million deal was brokered and he was favourite under Jose Mourinho. The player has an eye for Man United as he is looking to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho.
Willian said, “There were a few conversations with my agent. I worked with Mourinho and I became his friend as well. He likes me a lot and I like him a lot as a coach and as a person. He has put his trust in me and in my work, and I was very grateful to him.
“Manchester came to me, they talked with my agent, but nothing happened, because Chelsea would not negotiate me in any way and I’m very happy at Chelsea.”
Chelsea sold one of their best players to Man United and Conte has received so much backlash for letting Nemanja Matic leave.
Both Chelsea and Man United are still in the market for new players but if Willian does not play regularly this season, he may decide to leave soon.
