Having spent the excess of £150m to sign Victor Lindelof from Benfica, Romelu Lukaku from Everton and Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, Jose Mourinho reckoned that he wanted one more player added to his otherwise strong squad before the close of the window. However, it appears that the Portuguese manager has given up on the hope of making a fourth summer signing.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic but the San Siro Outfit have refused to lower their valuation of the player. The Red Devils have seen up to two bids for the winger thrown out before Danny Rose also emerged a target after he questioned the ambition of Tottenham Hotspur.
Barring Victor Lindelof, who’s still struggling to adapt to the rigours of the Premier league, United new boys have bedded into Mourinho’s team and they have been joined by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, Jose Mourinho obviously does not see Ibra as a new signing even though he’ll provide a very potent option to his side’s final third.
“Everyone knows I would like a fourth player and I can’t hide that because I had it in my mind,” Mourinho reiterated during his press conference on Friday. “But I am happy if I am not going to have [a fourth player] and I don’t think I am going to have.
“And I was the first to tell my board not to feel any kind of pressure from me in that respect, but probably next summer, I have to try to get a player for a position that I think can make us stronger.”
Even without Ivan Perisic, Man United are doing well in the league and it appears that Anthony Martial has stepped up his game. United could still attempt to lure Perisic to Old Trafford when the transfer window is re-opened in January.
