Not Higuain: Chelsea in advance talks to seal transfer of 24-goal striker

Chelsea are in talks with Atletico Madrid over the potential transfer of Alvaro Morata, this is according to reports.

Morata is dubbed an unhappy figure after failing to impress at Chelsea since arriving in the penultimate summer.

He is out of favour with Sarri, who has preferred to play Eden Hazard in a false nine role. Morata reportedly wants out of Stamford Bridge this winter and he has been heavily linked with a move to the La Liga.

Sevilla was thought to be front-runners for his signature but they pulled out of the race for the signature. And now, reports have indicated that Diego Simeone wants the player.

The Sun reports that talks are going on smoothly and although a transfer fee is yet to be agreed, he is expected to join Los Rojiblancos on a permanent deal instead of the initial proposed loan move.

Morata has managed only 24 goals in 72 appearances for Chelsea since join from Madrid in 2017. He was left out of the Blues’ squad that thumped Newcastle over the weekend.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Morata is willing to take a pay-cut in order to rejoin his boyhood club and bring his career back on track.

Diego Simeone may have to sanction the sale of one of his forward to make way for Morata. Gelson Martins and Nikola Kalinic are the offensive players that could be sacrificed.
