It is no longer news that Chelsea have sold more players than they have acquired this year. Apparent, the Blues are poised to restructure the squad and recoup funds in preparation of the upcoming season.
Chelsea have advanced talks with Watford for the transfer of English youngster Nathaniel Chalobah, reports the Standard.
Having ascended the grades of Chelsea’s youth system, Chalobah has failed to earn himself a place in midfield of Chelsea, hence his desire to further his career away from Stamford Bridge.
GFN understand that Chalobah is in the final year of contract with Chelsea, and the Blues had plans to offer him an extension for five-years. However, the imminent arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge means he continue to be in the fringes of Antonio Conte’s team.
According to the Independent, Chalobah is currently in the radar of several Premier League Clubs but it is Watford who leads the race for his signature. The report claims the Hornets are willing to pay £5m, which they will believe will be likely enough for the player’s transfer.
Since 2013, Chalobah has sojourned several European Clubs on loan spells, with the first being with Watford. The 22-year-old was part of Chelsea’s team of last season as he impressed Conte during the pre-season of last summer.
