Antonio Conte wants to defend the Premier League title but to be able to stage a strong title defense, the Blues are condemned to bolster their squad.
Having sold Nathan Ake to Bournemouth, the fans of Chelsea were divided in opinion as they hoped for the signing of players into the Club than sale of their prospective stars.
However, Chelsea have advanced talks with Italian giants Roma over a deal for German centre-back Antonio Rudiger, reports the Guardian.
GFN understands that the agent of the 24-year defender has traveled to London and he is expected to broker a £30million deal for the player, who is also eager to join. Roma have valued the player at £39.6m but Chelsea are willing to offer £30m for his services.
The deal for Rudiger is believed to have been hastened because a proposed deal for Kostas Manolas did not fall through. Chelsea also allowed Ake departed their rank, leaving them almost threadbare in numbers at the back.
Chelsea have been chasing the player who is now touted to replace John Terry on the long-term. Despite still at Stamford Bridge, Terry has come the end of his enviable and glorious career.
Rudiger joined Roma from Stuttgart in the summer of 2015 and imposed himself at the heart of defense of the Roman team. He is currently a squad member of the German team playing in the confederations Cup.
He can play at right back or the third person in a back three, he is expected to give Azpilicueta competition for places.
