Not Aurier: Antonio Conte sanctions Chelsea deal for £36m-rated Man United target

Antonio Conte has expressed interest in Barcelona right-back Sergio Roberto and has reportedly told Chelsea chiefs to sign the Spanish defender.

The Blues boss has endured a mixed transfer window, he has made four signings so far but he is keen to add more depth to his squad. The departure of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United has shrunk their midfield while Victor Moses is the only option for the right-wing back role.

It is understood Conte wants additions in those areas before the transfer window closes as he wants to retain the Premier League title and make a statement in the Champions League. He has failed in his attempts to sign Juventus’ Alex Sandro, Tottenham’s Danny Rose as well as Real Madrid’s Danilo,

And according to Spanish publication Sport, the Italian manager has now made Barcelona’s Roberto his primary target, urging the club to make a move for him. The reports also claim the 25-year-old, who can play in the midfield and as a right-back, has a £36 million release clause in his contract.

The Spain international has not been able to hold down a regular spot at the Nou Camp and could move to the Premier League champions as the arrival of Nelson Semedo at the Spanish giants this summer may push him further down the pecking order.

Manchester United are also reported to be interested in the defender as Jose Mourinho also wants to strengthen his team for the new season.
