Arsenal will have to cough up an astronomical 80 million euros to sign Lille star Nicolas Pepe.
The north Londoners saw their chase for a top four finish restored when they pipped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men at the Emirates 2-nil to clamber out of a difficult fifth position.
But the Gunners will need extra juice and turbo power if they aim to lift the Premier League title next season.
Lille star Pepe has reportedly been on their radar for sometime now. Though there had been some kind of awkward silence and murmurs on whether Lille would sell off the star who has been the spine of their attack this season.
The 23-year-old has found the back of the net 16 times for the French Ligue 1 outfit and registered 8 assists in 27 appearances for the side.
While many would have thought yanking him off the French club’s grip would be an herculean task talking it out on the table, Arsenal may not have to worry about making a move for him.
Lille president Gérard López hinted he could leave in the summer. However, his price fee already has clubs like Arsenal completely knocked back. Lopez will not sanction the sale of his marquee player below 80 million euros (68.7m pounds). Arsenal are on the backfoot in this race as they are cash-strapped compared to other interested suitors namely, Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona.
