Gonzalo Higuain has joined Chelsea from AC Milan this month, and that’s enough pounds of worry for striker Olivier Giroud.
Giroud has been producing the goods at Chelsea, but dropped a few notches down, leaving boss Maurizio Sarri to pick the crown of the jewel Eden Hazard to play through the centre.
The Italian could not rely on Alvaro Morata either, who had seen his performance experience a flag. Morata is preparing to join Spanish side Atletico Madrid, after a disappointing campaign at Chelsea under Sarri.
Higuain’s arrival will definitely add an extra spark to a Chelsea side that has failed to bite opportunities in front this better half of the season.
The looming exit of Giroud seems to be hovering in the clouds up in Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are said to be plotting to raid Inter Milan for Mauro Icardi. That is reportedly said to be on the horizon, as Sarri attempts to beef up his frontline ahead of next season.
With these plans now in the running, Giroud could walk out as a free at the end of the season.
While the possibility of that happening should make any striker stew or brood, the Frenchman however, is not worried.
“My agent is taking care of things. If they’re looking for a forward we’ll study the opportunities, whether it be there or elsewhere… As I’m practically out of contract in June, we’ll see what the best decision to take is,” the Frenchman replied when asked about potential interest from abroad.
