Germany and Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has revealed the difference between Arsene Wenger’s coaching style and Unai Emery’s.
Wenger had a 22-year spell with the Gunners, where he won majority of his trophies in the first decade. The French manager struggled in the last decade of his spell and was replaced by Emery at the end of last season.
Emery’s appointment was greeted with fanfare but a huge section of Arsenal fanbase doubted the technical prowess of the Spanish manager. Arsenal started the season dismally but have been unbeaten in their last 14 games.
And speaking ahead of the Gunners Europa League clash against Sporting, Mustafi has revealed how different the method of Emery is to Wenger.
“I feel there’s a good mix between discipline and freedom,” Mustafi said
“We try to work as a team, building up from the back. When we don’t have it, we press and defend from the front.
“When we have the ball, we’re all offensive players. When we lose the ball, we’re all defensive players. Against Liverpool, it was the first game where we came out from the first minute and were everywhere until the 90th.”
Arsenal are currently lying in fifth position on the Premier League log and they will take on Wolves in the League this weekend. Emery has been tipped to bring back the glory days for Arsenal.
