Manchester United manager José Mourinho was linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann in a deal which is believed to be within the range of £88m (€100m) during the winter transfer window. Yet, the Frenchman opted to remain at the Spanish capital.
However, the Portuguese manager was able to sign Alexis Sanchez before the close of the January transaction period, but the Chilean seems to have lost his form as he has only found the back of the net just twice for the Premier League giants in all competitions throughout this season.
Due to Sanchez’s poor form in front of goal, Mourinho has been tipped to launch another move for the 26-year-old attacker who is now Barcelona’s main transfer target this summer. But, the latest report from Spanish media outlet Don Balon claims that Manchester United have ultimately ended their race for the player’s signature so as to spend on Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale in the summer.
Gareth Bale is one of the players who are tipped to leave Santiago Benarbeu by the end of the season due to his injury crisis. The Welshman has endured a bittersweet experience since his big-money move to the Spanish giants from Tottenham in 2012 and he is set to return to the Premier League next season.
This report will surely be a sad one for the Atletico board who are doing everything possible to prevent Griezmann from moving to either Real Madrid or Barcelona who are both showing strong interest to sign the Frenchman in the summer.
