“Arsenal never gets their man’ – the Gunners have always indicated interest in their target but they rarely get them to sign a deal. That was also the tale when the top brass of the club searched for a replacement for Arsene Wenger.
Manchester City versatile midfielder Fabian Delph has revealed that he was pleased to see Arsenal and Mikel Arteta not reach an agreement over a deal, according to report.
Following the resignation of Arsene Wenger as the manager of the Gunners, several names were mentioned as possible replacement for the legendary manager including Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti and Tomas Tuchel but Mikel Arteta ranked top as favourite for the job. Alas, the Gunners failed to reach any agreement with the Manchester City assistant coach and they opted to sign Unai Emery.
Arteta reportedly wanted total control but the Gunners wanted him as the head coach for just the affairs of football while they have sven Mislintat to recruit players. Delph, who’s currently with the national team of England for the world cup in Russia laid bare his delight that Arteta is still staying put with the Citizens.
“I think Mikel would be a fantastic manager. When the rumours were circulating about him leaving, I was thinking ‘please don’t!’ We get on very well as do all the players and staff. We’ve got a great energy and that energy is similar to what we’ve got here with England.”, per the Telegraph.
Guardiola has asked his players to keep in touch with either him or Arteta during the world cup – we expect to see a more technical coaching duo next season.
