Arsenal are locked in a tough fight with Tottenham to sign Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals.
Gunners pipped Manchester United to snatch the fourth place for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at the Emirates, turning up the heat in the competition for a top four spot.
Notwithstanding, there is still a grave need to bolster their ranks before the new season gets underway.
One player stands in the way of shaking up things at the Emirates however–Mesut Ozil. The former German international is still struggling to cope under Unai Emery and the Spanish boss has run out of patience for the 30-year-old.
Ozil is the club’s highest earner, pocketing a whopping wage of 400,000-pounds-per-week. Arsenal had expected a player of his calibre trousering that wad of cash ought to be producing the goods. However that has not been the case with Ozil. He’s seen his form take a deep dive and that worries Emery who has called the midfielder character into question.
Arsenal want him off their books and are still scouring around for clubs willing to buy him. His sale could open the door for the club to let in new players like Villareal’s Fornals.
And if ever they can’t find a club for Ozil, Arsenal could miss out by giving Tottenham enough leeway to sign the midfielder in the summer.
