Maurizio Sarri sanctions Chelsea deal for 31-year-old striker – not Higuain

Chelsea are still fighting tooth and nail to seal their qualification into the European Champions League next season.

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is gradually fading into oblivion. The Blues have been toothless in front of goal. Chelsea still continue to have the meat of possession against opponents, but have been slabby in their performance in front of goal.

The Blues need a confident striker to stay atop in the Premier League and Real Madrid last season signing Morata has failed to deliver the goods.

Morata was hit with a severe knock in Chelsea Europa League draw against Vidi on Thursday. It is unclear if his injury is serious however, Chelsea still need to find the striker that can pass through the rigours of the Premier League.

Dries Mertens, Napoli striker fits the bill. The 31-year-old has been phenomenal for the Naples club. He was spotlighted after a brilliant showoff under Sarri during the Italian’s stretch at the club last season.

Mertens is on Chelsea’s cards, as the Blues scour Europe for a suitable striker. Mertens hinted he could be on his way to Chelsea, if Sarri showed interest.

Napoli want to keep Mertens. However, Mertens who admitted to learning a lot from the Italian, could force his move away from Napoli, next year.
