Maurizio Sarri sanction £40.7m deal for in-demand midfielder endorsed by Andrea Pirlo

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has sanctioned a move for Italy and Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella, this is according to reports.’

Barella broke into the first team of Cagliari in 2015 and he has quickly established himself as the best midfield prospect in Italy, to the extent he was described as “one of the best players in Italy” by Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo.

His good display has been noticed in the Premier League, with Liverpool and Tottenham said to be heavily attracted to him. However, Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old and they are pleased with his progress.

The Metro claims Gianfraco Zola and Sarri are impressed with the midfielder and they have asked the top brass of Chelsea to sign him.

As claimed by the report, Chelsea will table a €45 million (£40.7m) bid for the player when the January transfer window comes alive.

Danny Drinkwater is out of favour at Chelsea and there is some much uncertainty surrounding the future of Cesc Fabregas. The Blues are certain to lose one or two of the aforementioned players but they are making move to replace them.

Barella was a subject of bid in the summer but he admitted that he rejected the offers. However, should the price be right, Cagliari are unlikely to keep him.

The Blues will also face competition from club in the Seria A for his signature as Juventus, Inter, AC Milan and Roma have all signaled interest in the star.
