Maurizio Sarri reveals plans for the January transfer window

Maurizio Sarri has made the signing of a defender his priority for the January transfer window, according to reports.

Sarri took over the reigns of Chelsea late on in the summer, this affected the business of the club in the transfer window.

They were able to reinforce only their midfield in terms of outfield players – even though they have competed well in the League so far, they appear short of option in the attack and defense.

Chelsea are parallel on point with City and Liverpool but Sarri has admitted that the clubs mentioned are way ahead of them. The reason is not far-fetched, their size of the Blues’ squad.

Hazard has led the Blues to their near-impeccable spell so far but the inability of the Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud to score goals could cost their the League or their position in the top four.

While many expect Chelsea to sign a more potent striker, it is claimed by the Telegraph that Sarri will inform the hierarchy of the Blues to go for a defender.

Alessio Romagnoli, Daniele Rugani and Mattia Caldara have all been mentioned as targets for the Blues but the January transfer window may not be the right time to prise them away from their club.

Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz have been regular starters for Sarri at the heart of defense – Garry Cahill has been linked with a move away from the side.
