Ahead of the London derby against Tottenham, Maurizio Sarri has warned his players not to give away ball possession cheaply.
The Blues are one of the three Premier League clubs that are yet to suffer defeat in the League this term and they are looking to maintain the same feat against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
The reign of Sarri at the helms of Chelsea has seen the West London club change their approach to playing. They used to be more defensive but Sarri has been able to transform their style to one that sees them retain possession, with Jorginho as the pivot of midfield, orchestrating play.
Against capital rivals Tottenham, the Blues expects a tough game but Sarri knows their biggest undoing would be their inability to hold on to possession.
While Sarri laid bare his admiration for Pochettino, he claimed the game would be difficult for his side.
“I think he has done a very good job. They play very good football,” said Sarri, who expects to have Mateo Kovacic available after injury.
“They are very dangerous in the offensive phase and with short counter-attacks.
“They are a technical team and in the matches they run a lot. From a physical point of view they are a strong team.
“They are competitive. They will fight for a Champions League position for sure.
“It’s a very difficult match because we have to be careful not to lose the ball in our half because they are very dangerous in these situations.”
