Maurizio Sarri drops four key Chelsea players from Europa League squad against PAOK

Chelsea will take on Greek side PAOK tonight at the Toumba Stadium but they traveled without four of their key players, this is according to reports.

The Blues confirmed on their official website that they are without Matteo Kovacic, Eden Hazard, David Luiz and Emerson Palmieri.

Following his awe-inspiring start to the season, it is widely expected that Hazard would be given time-out to rest. The Belgian has found the back of the net five times in the league this term and in a bid to keep him fresh, Sarri has acted accordingly.

Meanwhile, Chelsea new boy Kovacic picked up an injury last weekend in their game against Cardiff City and there is no telling how soon he will return to action. Sarri has however played down the severity of the injury.

Marcos Alonso has been the stand alone left wing back at the club but Palmieri was expected to play in his stead today. There has been no update as to why the Italy international has been left out of the travel party.

David Luiz has equally been rested – the likes of Victor Moses, Andreas Christensen, Ethan Ampadu and Ross Barkley will certainly be given game time.
