N’golo Kante goal in the second half at Selhurst Park kept Chelsea’s hope alive in finishing inside the top four, while leaving them paces ahead of local city rivals Arsenal.
Striker Olivier Giroud had two goals ruled out as offside in either halves, before limping off the pitch in what was later confirmed as an ankle injury.
The Frenchman was replaced by Spaniard Alvaro Morata for the remainder of the game at Selhurst Park.
Giroud will not be available in Chelsea clash against Saints Southampton due to the knock in his ankle.
Chelsea continue to suffer severe injury problems with games coming thick and fast in January. They’re already without Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Andrea Christensen.
This has not bode well for manager Maurizio Sarri who despite his cool demeanour, is irated by the fact that his team is short handed going into the New Year.
Giroud was a pressing figure behind Palace backline and despite slowly picking up flighted ball on his path, he proved a menace for Palace as the Blues fought tooth and nail to get on the scoresheet, before Kante’s goal in the second half broke the deadlock.
In their last five matches, Chelsea have score fewer goals compared to their blazing start into the season, underlining the need to get a better striker in transfer window .
