Premier League outfit Arsenal have been dealt a serious blow as talented German playmaker retires at age 28 this summer.
Josephine Henning announced her retirement from football at age 28 after a devastating hit from an injury that kept her sidelined for a long haul at the north Londoners.
The 28-year-old joined from Lyon where she scored an impressive record by winning the treble with the French outfit in 2016, before making a switch to join London-side Arsenal.
The Gunners suffered to find rhythm last summer and leaked well enough in their backline as they rode that campaign on injuries. The arrival of the German star was perceived as a relieve to an already injury-laden side.
However, the reverse was the case and the Gunners are prepared to let her go, given the state of her health.
The 28-year-old took to Instagram to express her profound gratitude to the entire club and fans.
Eure Josi 😙 What an amazing time! This summer, my career as a professional footballer will come to an end. It is now the right time for me to let all the incredible moments sink in. When I look back, I feel unbelievable gratitude and I am so thankful to have had such amazing support during these past years. I’ve had the privilege to fulfill my dream and I don’t take that for granted. If I were able to pay it forward in some way, then that would be to inspire everyone to believe that you can achieve anything you want to if you believe in yourself. Sport will always be a huge part of my life, and I’m so excited now to see in which direction my path will take me. Thank you so much for all the lovely experiences and adventures which I was lucky enough to experience with you all. WHAT AN AMAZING TIME! 😙 Josi
